Fall 2018 Pitch Competition
You could win $10,000 for your business idea! Open to all UA students, participate in The University of Akron/eBay $10,000 Startup Challenge. A top prize of $10,000 will be awarded to the winner, with additional prizes awarded to runners-up. View details.
Through the Akron Community Internship Program (ACIP), students spend 100 hours and earn $1,000 working on a specific activity with a clear deliverable. You may be eligible to earn academic credit through the internship, depending on your department. View current openings.
Up to $1,000 grant for Community-Engaged Courses − accepting proposals
The EX[L] Center awards grants of up to $1,000 to support faculty members whose courses engage the Greater Akron community-based research or service-learning. View application instructions.

ACIP - Spotlight
Northeast Ohio Student Venture Fund (NEOSVF), an ACIP who employs EXL student Alizeh Khalifa, received the “Coolest Internship” award at the 2018 Expys - an event that honors excellence in experiential learning.
EX[L] Center co-director attends prestigious summit
Dr. Carolyn Behrman was selected to participate in the inaugural DELTA Summit by DCAL and NSEE. Educators and program directors described as "highly imaginative, passionate leaders and big-thinkers in the field of experiential learning" were brought together to explore big questions and challenges in higher education.
UA student drops out, rebounds with EX[L] Center
In this student success story, EbaNee Bond recalls the self-doubt that led her to drop out of UA, and the unexpected call that brought her back. She credits the EX[L] Center for restarting her academic career and opening up a future of endless possibilities.
► Courtney Malita writes about the The Impact of the "Unclass:" Breaking from the Traditional Classroom and the benefits she gained from taking "Unearthing the Paranormal: Ghosts of Akron's Past."
► The unclass "Unearthing the Paranormal: Ghosts of Akron's Past" let anthropology students research "haunted" history and practice in-the-field interviewing techniques as they explored ghost stories surrounding Akron's Schneider Park and mass graves.
► The Cummings Center's Institute for Human Science and Culture wrote about UA's "Digital Humanities in the Archives" unclass in its blog post, "In an UnClass of its Own." Students learned archiving skills and how to make items accessible to the public and to scholars.
