Dr. Matthew Becker

Polymer professor honored for two career accomplishments

Dr. Matthew Becker, the W. Gerald Austen Endowed Chair of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering, was recently recognized for technologies originating from his Laboratory that lead to one of the largest technology transfer agreements in UA history.

Becker was also recently inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering's (AIMBE) College of Fellows. Membership is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to medical and biological engineers. The College of Fellows is comprised of the top 2 percent of medical and biological engineers in the United States for their significant contributions to the field.

The popular store features unique alumni and UA merchandise not available anywhere else. Since opening in December 2017, sales have contributed more than $6,000 directed to the Making a Difference, Moving Forward campaign, supporting student scholarships.

Charles Bittner

The Charles (Chick) and Marie C. Bittner Advanced Hearing Technology and Therapy Endowment Fund will support UA’s Audiology and Speech Center. The Center provides a full range of clinical speech, language and hearing services for children and adults in the greater Akron-Canton area and Northeast Ohio.

Kudos to graphic design major Mark Roberts, who created the stickers. He is a student assistant in the Department of University Communications and Marketing.

The all-time winningest coach in program history and the longest tenured coach in the Mid-American Conference, Kest completed her 25th season in the head coaching industry and her 34th season as a women's basketball coach in 2017-18.

"It has been a blessing to have coached the last 12 years at The University of Akron," Kest said. "I have had the privilege to coach many wonderful young ladies who have excelled in the classroom, on the basketball court, and in the community. They have taught me more about life than I could have ever taught them."
